White House Cans Meetings On Immigration

CaribWorldNews, WASHINGTON, D.C., Weds. June 17, 2009: Despite much talk in recent months of comprehensive immigration reform, President Barack Obama and the White House seem to be fast pushing the hot button issue onto the back burner.

Reports indicate that two meetings on the issue have so far been canned by the White House. A meeting scheduled originally for today has again been cancelled because of `scheduling conflicts,` McClatchy reports indicate. And no new date has as yet been given.

So far, New York Senator, Chuck Schumer, is taking the lead in the Senate on the issue, saying he hopes to have a bill by the fall.

President Obama promised Hispanic voters during the presidential campaign that he would address immigration in his first year in office.
