WASA to upgrade key water facilities in north-east Trinidad

WASA has an­nounced a se­ries of in­fra­struc­ture up­grades aimed at im­prov­ing wa­ter sup­ply for over 300,000 res­i­dents in north-east Trinidad.

The projects in­clude:

● Ex­pand­ing the Gua­napo Wa­ter Treat­ment Plant from 3.5 to 5.5 mil­lion gal­lons per day

● Re­plac­ing stor­age tanks at the North Oropouche fa­cil­i­ty

● Build­ing a new 12 mil­lion gal­lon-per-day plant in Saly­bia/Matu­ra

● De­vel­op­ing a new well in San­gre Grande to pro­duce 0.5 mil­lion gal­lons per day

● Re­fur­bish­ing the Cu­mu­to plant and drilling two new wells

● Con­struct­ing a new boost­er sta­tion in Coryal

Some com­mu­ni­ties cur­rent­ly re­ceiv­ing lit­tle or no wa­ter are ex­pect­ed to get a min­i­mum of 24/3 ser­vice, with some mov­ing to 24/7 sup­ply.

Dur­ing a site tour on Ju­ly 5, Act­ing CEO Jee­van Joseph said the up­grades are part of the util­i­ty’s push to de­liv­er projects on time and sup­port the gov­ern­ment’s goal of fair and re­li­able wa­ter ac­cess.

The next fa­cil­i­ty tours are sched­uled for Cen­tral on Ju­ly 12 and To­ba­go on Ju­ly 17.
