Student held with knife at school

A sec­ondary school stu­dent was ar­rest­ed and charged yes­ter­day af­ter a se­cu­ri­ty of­fi­cer dis­cov­ered a knife on him as he ar­rived at a school in Cen­tral Trinidad.

Po­lice said two se­cu­ri­ty of­fi­cers were con­duct­ing search­es on stu­dents be­fore they en­tered the school com­pound. Around 8:20 am, one of the of­fi­cers searched a form three stu­dent and found a sharp­ened curved knife in a black side pouch, along with a black han­dle.

The stu­dent was tak­en to the prin­ci­pal, and his moth­er was con­tact­ed, as well as the po­lice. He was ar­rest­ed and tak­en to the Cou­va Po­lice Sta­tion, then trans­ferred to the Oropouche Ju­ve­nile Book­ing Cen­tre, where he was charged by PC Al­i­bo­cus for pos­ses­sion of an of­fen­sive weapon. He was re­leased on bail in the care of his moth­er but is ex­pect­ed to ap­pear be­fore the Mas­ter to­mor­row.
