The PNM Tobago Council has now selected 13 candidates after screening several individuals to contest the upcoming Tobago House of Assembly (THA) elections.
Political leader Ancil Dennis told Guardian Media that during the party’s second screening session on Monday night, 11 nominees were interviewed and six were chosen, bringing the total number of confirmed candidates to 13 out of the 15 electoral districts.
Two districts remain without candidates: Bagatelle/Bacolet and one in the east. Nominations for the eastern district of Parlatuvier/L’Anse Fourmi/Speyside will reopen today, and Dennis said the party expects to complete all screenings by the end of July.
He described the slate as a mix of young and experienced people who are active in their communities. “I’m excited about the group,” Dennis said, adding that he believes they are capable of delivering if elected.
He also urged former and current PNM supporters to rally behind the team, saying the party is preparing to return “good governance” to Tobago and will soon unveil its plans for the island.
The current THA term ends on December 6. The next election is constitutionally due within 90 days of that date, which could lead to an early poll in 2026.
