Pennelope Beckles to file nomination papers for PNM political leader today

Op­po­si­tion Leader Pen­ne­lope Beck­les is ex­pect­ed to file her nom­i­na­tion pa­pers lat­er this af­ter­noon, for the role of Po­lit­i­cal Leader of the Peo­ple’s Na­tion­al Move­ment (PNM).

While nom­i­na­tion pa­pers for dif­fer­ent roles in the par­ty's ex­ec­u­tive are ex­pect­ed to be filed, vot­ing will not come un­til the end of the month.

In a state­ment on so­cial me­dia, the Op­po­si­tion Leader said she was “will­ing and pre­pared to lead the PNM.”

She not­ed she has been a mem­ber of the par­ty since 1991, and knew what was need­ed to re­build the PNM and en­sure their re­turn to gov­ern­ment.

In her state­ment, she point­ed to her ex­pe­ri­ence serv­ing along­side for­mer prime min­is­ters and for­mer PNM po­lit­i­cal lead­ers Patrick Man­ning and Dr Kei­th Row­ley and sought the sup­port of the par­ty's mem­ber­ship.

Guardian Me­dia un­der­stands that both Fos­ter Cum­mings and Mar­vin Gon­za­les al­so will be fil­ing nom­i­na­tion pa­pers to con­test lead­er­ship po­si­tions in the par­ty.
