Man shot dead during altercation in Ste Madeleine

Po­lice are search­ing for a sus­pect who fa­tal­ly shot a 23-year-old man dur­ing a con­fronta­tion in Tar­o­dale, Ste Madeleine, on Thurs­day af­ter­noon.

The vic­tim, Geor­gio Young of Hope Street, was a labour­er and land­scap­er. He would have cel­e­brat­ed his 24th birth­day next Fri­day.

Around 2:30 pm, Young was re­port­ed­ly un­der a house on Per­sis­tence Av­enue when he got in­to an al­ter­ca­tion with a man armed with a gun. Dur­ing the strug­gle, the firearm fell to the ground but the sus­pect quick­ly re­trieved it and shot Young sev­er­al times.

Young col­lapsed in a near­by drain. The sus­pect ran off.

Rel­a­tives took Young to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, where he was pro­nounced dead at 3:09 pm.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors re­cov­ered two live 9-mil­lime­tre rounds, a spent shell cas­ing, and a pro­jec­tile at the scene.

Homi­cide Bu­reau of­fi­cers from Re­gion 3 are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
