Man missing after reported abduction near Freeport Flyover

Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing a sus­pect­ed kid­nap­ping that oc­curred near the Freeport Fly­over on Mon­day morn­ing.

The vic­tim has been iden­ti­fied as 53-year-old Ra­jesh Ma­haraj.

Around 9:30 a.m. on 9th June, Ma­haraj, of Al­li­ga­tor Trace North, Munroe Road, Cunu­pia, was seat­ed in the dri­ver’s seat of a brown ve­hi­cle an 80-year-old pas­sen­ger in the back seat. While parked in the vicin­i­ty of Mis­sion Road, a black ve­hi­cle pulled along­side them. Two men of African de­scent, ex­it­ed and con­front­ed Ma­haraj, de­mand­ing he step out. Ma­haraj re­port­ed­ly re­spond­ed, “To­mor­row na, ah tell yuh to­mor­row.”

The 80-year-old pas­sen­ger was lat­er dropped off near High­way Bar on Mis­sion Road, but Ma­haraj and his ve­hi­cle have not been seen since.

Re­spond­ing of­fi­cers in­ter­viewed sev­er­al peo­ple in the area and is­sued a broad­cast alert. They al­so searched the vicin­i­ty of the Freeport Fly­over, but nei­ther Ma­haraj nor the ve­hi­cle were found.

The mat­ter has been re­ferred to the An­ti-Kid­nap­ping Unit and Homi­cide Re­gion III. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing.
