Guevarro nominated for CoP; Mystar for acting DCP

The Po­lice Ser­vice Com­mis­sion has nom­i­nat­ed Al­lis­ter Gue­var­ro to be ap­point­ed as Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice, and Wayne Mys­tar to act as Deputy Com­mis­sion­er.

This is ac­cord­ing to the lat­est Or­der Pa­per of Par­lia­ment, ob­tained by CNC3. The Pres­i­dent is­sued the of­fi­cial no­ti­fi­ca­tion for Gue­var­ro’s ap­point­ment on May 9th, 2025. Mys­tar’s no­ti­fi­ca­tion to act as Deputy Com­mis­sion­er was is­sued on June 3rd. Both ap­point­ments re­quire the ap­proval of the House of Rep­re­sen­ta­tives.

Al­lis­ter Gue­var­ro has served in the Po­lice Ser­vice for over two decades, with key as­sign­ments in the Spe­cial Branch and in­ves­tiga­tive lead­er­ship roles. In 2010, he head­ed a high-pro­file in­ves­ti­ga­tion in­to how a box of con­fi­den­tial Supreme Court doc­u­ments end­ed up in a pri­vate law of­fice. At the time, he held the rank of In­spec­tor. More re­cent­ly, in 2022, he was part of the com­mit­tee ap­point­ed to probe the na­tion­wide black­out, rep­re­sent­ing the Spe­cial Branch. He cur­rent­ly holds the rank of As­sis­tant Com­mis­sion­er.

Wayne Mys­tar, al­so an As­sis­tant Com­mis­sion­er, has held a broad range of op­er­a­tional and pub­lic-fac­ing roles. He gained na­tion­al vis­i­bil­i­ty dur­ing the 2011 State of Emer­gency, serv­ing as po­lice pub­lic in­for­ma­tion of­fi­cer and head of the Traf­fic and High­way Pa­trol Branch. He lat­er led the Mount­ed Branch and served in the North­ern, Cen­tral, and South­ern Di­vi­sions. Most re­cent­ly, Mys­tar led pub­lic trust and com­mu­ni­ty ini­tia­tives, in­clud­ing the launch of a crime tip hot­line and tar­get­ed pa­trols to ad­dress do­mes­tic vi­o­lence and gang ac­tiv­i­ty.

The mo­tions to con­firm both ap­point­ments were sub­mit­ted un­der Gov­ern­ment Busi­ness by the Min­is­ter of Home­land Se­cu­ri­ty.
