French Caribbean Territories Reject Way Of Self-Rule


CaribWorldNews, NEW YORK, NY, Tues. Jan. 12, 2010: Some 70 percent of voters in two French Caribbean territories say they prefer to remain overseas territories of France than move to self-rule.

Voters in Martinique and French Guiana over the weekend rejected the option of greater autonomy in referendums held on the subject.

Nearly 70 percent of voters in French Guiana and more than 79 percent in Martinique voted to remain overseas departments that count as full parts of France and the European Union.
