The day before he was shot and killed during a botched drug transaction, Triston Robertson was warned by his father about the dangers of such activities.

Robertson, 23, was shot dead on Tuesday afternoon when he went to buy marijuana for a friend in Cocorite on Tuesday afternoon.

His father Andre Robertson, at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, on Wednesday, denied earlier reports that his son was selling marijuana to the people who shot him.

Andre Robertson said his son was a caring, law-abiding young man, but friends would ask him to buy marijuana for them.

“What I heard is that a friend of his was looking for weed and the friend gave him (Robertson) a job to go and buy the weed with $10,000.

“So they called him in Cocorite and said they had the weed.

“He just went with them on the run but he didn’t know what was taking place. It was a set-up.”

Robertson said his son was shot by the men after he gave them the money for the marijuana.

He tried to drive himself to the St James infirmary but died on the way.

Recalling a conversation he had with his son on Monday night, the grieving father said: “I told him to forget about this thing he was trying to hustle on the side with these guys.

“I told him right now men were setting up people and calling them to rob them.

“He listened to the warning and acknowledged it but that was it.”

Robertson’s mother Marsha Steele said she was still trying to come to terms with her son’s murder and never expected him to die by violence.

She said he had plans of visiting relatives in the US.

“I never in life thought these things would reach to my doorstep, especially because of the kind of person he was.

“He wanted to travel and go abroad. He was in the process of sorting out his visa to do that and this came and happened.”

Police from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region I are continuing enquiries.
