Drug Plane Explodes Over Bonaire


CaribWorldNews, ORANJESTAD, Aruba, Thurs. Oct. 15, 2009: A single-engine plane reportedly carrying narcotics, this week exploded over the tiny Dutch island of Bonaire.

Netherlands Antilles Coast Guard said the plane caught fire and exploded over the Caribbean Sea near the island late Tuesday.

Several bales of drugs were found floating amid the wreckage but authorities did not immediately disclose what type of drugs was found.

Two men were also found dead at the scene including the  pilot who was found strapped to his seat. Bonaire is among the Caribbean islands used as a transit point by drug smugglers from South America, according to the U.S. State Department.
