Caribbean News Updated – Guyana Army Captain Who Shot Girlfriend 14 Times Remanded

News Americas, GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Fri. April 6, 2018: A Guyana Army Captain who shot his girlfriend to death publicly last Saturday by emptying 14 bullets from his service revolver into her body was earlier today remanded to prison.

The Guyana Stabroek News is reporting that a post-mortem examination performed on Reona Payne’s body revealed that she died as a result of multiple gunshot injuries. She was reportedly shot fourteen times about her body, including once to her head, by her boyfriend Captain Orwain Sandy of the Guyana Defence Force in broad daylight in Alexander Village, E.B.D.

A tearful and shackled Sandy was not required to plead to the indictable capital offence [murder] when it was read to him by City Magistrate, Judy Latchman. He was remanded to prison and is expected to re-appear on April 24 2018.

Sandy was also ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

The incident occurred around 10.15 a.m. on March 31st following an argument between the two lovers. Sandy then drove himself to the Ruimveldt Police Station in Georgetown and informed the police there of what transpired. He also handed over the suspected murder weapon and was subsequently placed into custody.
