Hundreds of patrons who turned up on Saturday night at Pier 2, Chaguaramas to take part in the Chinese Lantern Wish Festival organised by the Chinese Association of Trinidad and Tobago were prevented from launching their wish lanterns by fire officers who made it clear that for safety reasons, there should be no launch of the lanterns into the open skies. The lanterns are also known as fire balloons.
